Book-like foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series have been around for years now. And now we have a book-like foldable… well, book.
The Readmoo mooInk V Fold, out of China, is the first of its kind and arrives with an 8-inch full colour e-ink 300ppi display that folds to be smaller than your average paperback.
The device is actually small enough to be placed in a jeans pocket, the company says and when open can be used flat to read comic books or in a more traditional landscape book format.
In a press release (translated from Chinese), the company explained the mooInk V Fold will survive 200,000 bends
The company said: “mooInk V will be the first e-paper product to introduce pad bending technology to meet the needs of narrow bezel design. It weighs about 255 grams and can be folded in half along the long side. It has two reading angles: 180 degrees and 90 degrees, making the experience closer to that of a paper book. From the content to the appearance, it is a complete “book”.”
You may be wondering why this is the first time we’re seeing an e-ink display in this format in a bundled and branded as a reader.
Readmoo said the display is about four times thicker than an OLED panel we’ve seen in foldable displays, which makes fashioning one much more difficult. As such it’s taken a while to develop a soliton. Nine years in fact!
All that’s left to be decided is when the device will go on sale and how much it will cost. Oh and whether we’ll be able to buy one in the UK.

Over to you Amazon?
Amazon rules the roost when it comes to e-readers, but it feels like there’s a good enough use case to justify developing this technology.
Amazon only just released its first colour e-reader. Will we see the company shake the Kindle line up further with a pocket-friendly reader?
