Here’s how Samsung is addressing a key Galaxy S25 Edge worry

Samsung has confirmed it has teamed with Gorilla Glass maker Corning on a new display cover for the Galaxy S25 Edge, ahead of its unveiling next week.

Given the slender nature of the device inherent in the name, a more robust glass may be required to guard against breakages, and that’s exactly what we’re getting: better crack deflection.

Coring’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is a “new glass ceramic offering that delivers advanced protection in a new, remarkably thin device form factor,” Samsung says in a Newsroom post.

The new protective tech “features crystals intricately embedded within its glass matrix, enhancing the durability and crack deflection capabilities of the display cover.”

The release notes that the synergy between the glass and crystal components ensure greater toughness without sacrificing optical transparence.

The company says: “As a key component in enhancing damage-resistance, Corning’s ion exchange process further fortifies the glass ceramic material and improves retained strength of the display cover.”

Hopefully this will address user concerns about durability of such a thin phone, but Samsung has work to do convincing the base a mere 3,900mAh battery will satisfy users need for 24 hours battery life or more. This has the potential to keep the S25 Edge from a place in our best Samsung phones lists

Samsung has confirmed it’ll launch it’s crack deflecting phone during a live stream on May 13 at 1am UK time. We hope to have the device in for testing not long after.

Opinion

These slim phones might end up being steps back without that much to gain. Would you be willing to sacrifice durability and battery life just to save a couple of millimetres? For a device you’re probably going to put into a case anyway?
