Samsung has officially announced its next Galaxy Unpacked event, where it’ll likely show off the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 – and possibly an ‘Ultra’ version of its flagship foldable.
The company has confirmed the event will take place on July 9, 2025, at 10 am ET in Brooklyn, New York (that’s 3 pm BST UK time). In addition to the latest foldables, we also expect updates to the Galaxy Watch line, possibly including a subscription service.
The teaser for the event, which you can see below, ends with the phrase “Ultra Unfolds,” which suggests there’s going to be some significant upgrades to the foldables. There’s been talk of a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra for a while now, so we may see an even pricier Fold join the already pricey range of phones.
The promotional material also suggests there’s going to be a thinner profile for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with rumours suggesting an 8-inch internal display and a 200-megapixel main camera similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may see an external display size increase to 4 inches and a slight internal display bump to 6.8 inches. Both devices are likely to benefit from Samsung’s One UI 8 and enhanced Galaxy AI features.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 8 is likely to focus on health improvements and a redesigned display. That may include a return for the rotating bezel we saw on previous models
Samsung is encouraging people to pre-register for the new devices and is offering a $50 credit to those who sign up. There’s no commitment to buy anything if you register your interest.
Opinion
Samsung might have been one of the first to launch foldable devices, but in technical terms it has fallen below rivals from Oppo, Honor and OnePlus in recent years. While the Fold 6 offered minimal upgrades, Oppo’s Find N5 wowed us with a riduclously thin body and smart software.
If Samsung does release this Ultra version of the Fold, I would expect a redesign to bring it closer to some of the rivals and a price increase – the latter of which will likely come as a blow to those who think these foldables are too expensive anyway.
