We interviewed Gerolamo Cangiano, the Vice President of the Parliamentary Bicameral Commission of Inquiry into Ecomafie, who here at our station inside the Italian Pavilion explained how important it is in an international context such as Fancy Food to strengthen the fight against agromafie in order to protect the quality and reputation of Made in Italy.
“In this legislature, the Bicameral Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Ecomafie is also dealing with eco-crimes and crimes on food products. The famous parmesan for example, is not an Italian, original product, but it can be misleading. We are here to support Italian companies in countering this risk. Parliament, with regulatory guidelines, is trying to strengthen the protection of products and producers.” Said Cangiano, who stressed how important it is for Italian companies in the agri-food sector to continue to work on the quality of raw materials and to tell the Italian story in the world.
“Italian cuisine is not just recipes, it tells about traditions and history, the Italy that we are. For this reason, we have taken advantage, just in these days, to nominate Italian cuisine as an intangible asset of Unesco. This occasion serves to strengthen the extraordinary relationship between Italy and the United States. In Times Square we have projected the tricolor, the images of Italy, the heart of our country entering the heart of the United States.” the Vice President of the Parliamentary Bicameral Commission of Inquiry on Ecomafie then held us to dedicate a passage to the made in Italy, so competitive and desired for its ability to tell the value of Italy all over the world.
Before saying goodbye, the Honorable Cangiano left us with an important anticipation: “we have recently presented, under my first signature, in the Cultural Commission in the Chamber, a resolution to commit the government to nominate traditional Neapolitan classical music as an intangible heritage of Unesco. This is good news for the many Italians here in the United States and around the world. Neapolitan music unites and tells the story of our culture and traditions.”
