An Italian dream becomes reality within the walls of the Columbus Citizens Foundation. It was here, between Madison and Park Avenues, that the official opening of House of Made in Italy, a cultural and promotional project celebrating Italian identity in the United States, was held on June 29, in conjunction with the Summer Fancy Food Show, the most important industry fair in the U.S., now in its 69th year.
Conceived by I Love Italian Food, an international organization created to defend and spread the authenticity of our cuisine around the world, in collaboration with the Columbus Citizens Foundation, House of Made in Italy is a true home of Italy: a physical, living and dynamic place designed to host events, master classes, talks, tastings and moments of cultural exchange between our country and the American professional world.
The project will last one year, until the summer of 2026, accompanying the journey to the World Cup in North America. For twelve months, the House will become a theater for events dedicated to Italian excellence: not only food & wine, but also design, fashion, crafts, sports and culture. A transversal tale of Made in Italy, built with passion and a shared vision among institutions, companies and players in the supply chain.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official launch of the project. Speakers included Alessandro Schiatti, President of I Love Italian Food, Maria Palandra, member of the Board of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, Consul General of Italy in New York Fabrizio Di Michele, Raimondo Lucariello for ICE Italian Trade Agency, Ettore Prandini, President of Coldiretti, and Dominga Cotarella, President of Campagna Amica Foundation.
In his opening speech, Alessandro Schiatti shared profound words that touched the hearts of the guests:
“Once upon a time there was a country that struggled to stay united. A country that, however, inspired the whole world. This country is Italy – land of painting, music, design, architecture, and of course … food. Despite the differences, only one thing really unites us: Made in Italy. That’s why the House of Made in Italy was born – a house to tell, promote and teach Americans about our culture. Today we open its doors: it is the beginning of a year-long journey, but more importantly, of a story that speaks of pride.”
The evening turned into a multisensory journey into the most authentic Italy. Chefs Michele Mazza and Luigi Speranza captivated the audience with their Pasta allo Scarpariello, made with Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP, bringing all the warmth of the South to their dishes. Roberto Caporuscio, master pizza maker, churned out his fragrant and unmistakable creations, while Campagna Amica’s farmer cooks offered homemade tagliatelle with Prosciutto di Parma DOP and lemon zest, evoking the kitchens of our countryside.
Rounding out the evening was pastry chef Bilena Settepani’s freshly filled Sicilian cannoli, a simple and sweetly charged gesture that made guests’ eyes and palates sparkle.
The success of the inauguration was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Columbus Citizens Foundation, which has always been committed to the enhancement of Italian-American culture, and to the staunch support of institutions and partners who believe in the strength of Made in Italy as an element of unity and national pride.
House of Made in Italy is now an open house on the world. A house where Italy is told, tasted and listened to. A house that invites anyone to enter, to discover that behind every flavor, every object, every note and every gesture there is a story made of beauty, passion and identity.
