A £129 box that can throw a 100-inch picture sounds too good to be true, but Wanbo’s new Dali 1 offers exactly that.
The Netflix-ready projector with quick auto setup and a price that undercuts most in our best portable projector list caught our attention after being revealed earlier this week.
A small box that does the fiddly bits for you
The Dali 1 leans on what Wanbo calls ASA 3.0 – it focuses itself, straightens the image, sizes the picture to your wall and even avoids light switches or photo frames. You just need to put it down, power it on, and Dali 1’s AI does the rest for you.
The projector runs on Android 9, allowing you direct access to apps Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+. You also get dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for better range and Bluetooth 5.0, and there’s a speaker-only mode when you just want to listen to music or a podcast.
But what do you actually get for £129? Well, under the hood you’re looking at a 350 ANSI lumens LED engine, a native 1280 x 720 HD resolution that can support 1080p input, and a projection size of 40-100 inches. It also has a 1500:1 contrast ratio, which is enhanced through a three-layer glass lens design.
More importantly, though, the projector only weights 0.9kg, making it easy to transport it from room to room. Sound comes from a pair of 5W high-fidelity stereo speakers, but a 3.5mm jack will also allow you to connect it to external speakers or via Bluetooth to headphones.
Port wise, you’ve got access to one HDMI 1.4 and one USB 2.0 port, but it can also handle wireless screen mirroring through AirPlay and Miracast.
The Dali 1 is available to buy now from a variety of retailers, including Amazon.
Opinion
For the price, Wanbo seems to focus on what really matters: quick setup, built-in streaming, and enough brightness for a cosy movie night in. As a simple way to throw a big picture on a blank wall without spending much, the Dali 1 looks like a tidy crowd-pleaser on paper.
