Another iPhone Air competitor is here, this time from Huawei

Want an Android alternative for the iPhone Air? If you’re longing for a lightweight phone with a big battery life and a packed camera system, then the Huawei Mate 70 Air should have you covered.

First leaked a few days ago, the Huawei Mate 70 Air is the brand’s slimmest flagship. Although it is thicker than the iPhone Air by 1 mm and heavier by 30%, you get a lot more features in return.

This thing packs four rear cameras (compared to the iPhone Air’s one) and a massive 6500 mAh battery, pretty much doubling what the iPhone Air offers.

The new phone is huge. It has an almost 7-inch display. Huawei says it is not cutting corners on specs just to achieve the super slim look, unlike some competitors. To be honest, though, it’s still pretty thin, coming in at around 6.6 mm thick, which should help it feel comfortable in your hand even with the massive screen.

Huawei is claiming that this phone has up to 50 hours of battery life, twice as long as the battery life of the Apple iPhone Air. Plus, you also don’t have to worry about the charging time of this phone since you get both endurance and speed with a 66W superfast charger.

It comes loaded with HarmonyOS 5.1, ensuring you get a smooth experience as native apps run seamlessly. It uses two versions of the Kirin chip with plenty of power to spare, and one standout feature is the two-way Beidou satellite communication.

There’s a punch-hole camera design, allowing for maximum screen real estate and less bezel. This provides a more immersive and full-screen experience, also making the phone look more modern and less intrusive.

For the four rear cameras, there is a 50MP main camera, a 12MP RYYB telephoto camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 1.5 million multi-spectral channels red maple lens. It provides a full camera solution with the XMAGE System, Huawei’s top-notch image tech. All these come together to hopefully snap crisp photos in all kinds of light, even at night, thanks to that primary colour sensor. That way, you get versatility and quality no matter what you’re capturing.

Right now, the Mate 70 Air is only available in China, where pre-orders are now available. There’s no word yet on when it’ll launch globally, or how much it would cost if it did.
