Apple’s next tvOS update is about to make sharing Apple TV a lot easier, especially for families.
In tvOS 26.2, users will finally be able to create profiles without an Apple account, opening the door to simple guest profiles and a brand-new kids-only mode.
Until now, every Apple TV profile required signing in with an Apple ID, which made it cumbersome to set up for visitors or children. With tvOS 26.2, as per MacRumors reports, there’s now a “Create Profile” option that only asks for a name, a profile rating, and whether the user is a child.
If you select “Yes,” Apple TV automatically switches into a child-friendly experience, restricting content to a PG rating by default. Parents can customise this further by selecting appropriate ratings for movies and TV shows based on age. Once set, the Apple TV app filters out all adult content, even in the Store and Library sections, showing only suitable kids’ movies and shows.
This is Apple’s most family-focused update in years and comes close to the long-rumoured dedicated kids mode that never materialised back in the tvOS 14 era. While this new mode only applies to the Apple TV app, and not third-party apps, parents can still use system-wide parental controls to limit access elsewhere.
The changes aren’t just for children, though. Adults who don’t have an Apple account, like guests or family members, can now create profiles too, complete with their own personalised recommendations. These profiles can later be upgraded to full Apple accounts if needed, or deleted just as easily.
Apple says these new profiles may also appear on third-party devices with the Apple TV app, meaning kids’ accounts could carry over to smart TVs and other platforms.
tvOS 26.2 is currently available for developers and public beta testers, with a full rollout expected in mid-December.
It’s a small update on paper, but for households juggling multiple viewers and watchlists, it’s one of the biggest quality-of-life changes the Apple TV has seen in years.
