A very handy Google Maps feature is rolling out now – but only for the Pixel 10

Google Maps is quietly adding a surprisingly useful new perk for Pixel 10 owners: Power Saving mode for driving navigation.

First teased during Google’s recent Feature Drop, the update is now rolling out, but only to the Pixel 10 lineup.

The feature kicks in with a simple tap of the power button while you’re navigating. Instead of the usual full-colour interface and floating controls, Maps switches to a minimal, black-and-white layout designed to stretch your battery as far as possible.

You still get the essentials, the map layer, your next turn at the top of the screen, and system status icons but nearly everything else fades away.

That means no Google Assistant/Gemini shortcut, no floating action buttons, no left or right quick controls, and even no speedometer. At the bottom, you’ll only see the basic route info you need to stay on track. If you need something more, tapping the screen or pressing the power button again instantly returns you to the full interface.

Google says this stripped-back mode can deliver up to four extra hours of battery life, based on its late-2025 testing in California, though real-world mileage will vary depending on traffic, display brightness and your usual settings. Still, for long drives or moments when your battery is running dangerously low, it’s a practical addition.

There are a few limitations. Power Saving mode only works in portrait orientation, and only when you’re using driving navigation, not cycling, walking or public transport. And for now, it’s exclusive to the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

How to enable Google Maps power saving mode

The feature is enabled by default via a server-side update, but you can turn it off by heading to:

Google Maps > Profile > Settings > Navigation > Driving options > Power saving mode

It’s a small change, but one that makes Google Maps feel a little smarter, and the Pixel 10 a little more appealing for anyone who spends a lot of time behind the wheel.
