Chord Electronics has given its award-winning Mojo 2 DAC/headphone amp a subtle but genuinely meaningful refresh.
The company has added a 4.4mm balanced output and USB-C charging, two changes driven directly by user feedback, and impressively, the price hasn’t gone up a penny.
The original Mojo 2 came with dual 3.5mm headphone jacks, but with more high-end headphones now leaning toward 4.4mm balanced connectors, Chord has swapped one of those 3.5mm ports for a proper 4.4mm Pentaconn output.
The remaining 3.5mm jack stays put, and both outputs now come with independent volume memory, making it easier to switch between headphones without readjusting levels.
The other key tweak is selectable USB-C charging. While the Mojo 2 already had USB-C for data, it couldn’t be used for power, something owners have been asking Chord to fix. With this update, the existing USB-C port now handles both data and charging, streamlining the setup considerably.
Beyond these changes, the Mojo 2 remains the same powerhouse portable DAC it launched as. It still runs on Chord’s proprietary FPGA architecture, complete with the company’s custom WTA filter and Pulse Array DAC for class-leading transparency and detail. Its standout feature, the world’s first lossless UHD DSP also returns, enabling tone adjustment across the full frequency range with zero degradation.
You still get the colourful (and slightly bewildering) button-driven menu system, four digital inputs (USB-C, Micro-USB, optical, and coaxial with dual-data compatibility for the M Scaler), and the clever Intelligent Desktop Mode that protects the battery during permanent plug-in use.
Battery performance is unchanged too: Chord says you’ll get over eight hours of listening, with its efficient FPGA-based charging running cooler and wasting 75% less power than previous models.
The chassis remains handmade in the UK from CNC-milled aircraft-grade aluminium, and the Mojo 2 continues to support the popular Poly streaming module thanks to its retained Micro-USB port.
The updated Mojo 2 is priced at £395, keeping its position as one of the most capable portable DACs you can buy now with a little extra modern convenience.
