Sky has removed Sky Q from its online store, making the satellite TV service unavailable to new customers signing up through the company’s website.
Visitors looking to join Sky’s TV service online are now directed toward Sky Stream instead, with Sky Q no longer offered as a selectable option. Existing Sky Q customers are unaffected and can continue using the service, but the change marks a shift in how Sky is presenting its TV platforms to new users.
Sky Stream takes priority for new customers
Sky Q has long been Sky’s main satellite-based TV platform, requiring a satellite dish and professional installation. While the service still exists, Sky is no longer selling it online, and the company has not issued an official statement explaining the change.
In its place, Sky is promoting Sky Stream as the default option for new sign-ups. Sky Stream delivers live TV and on-demand content over broadband, removing the need for a satellite dish entirely. The service uses a small streaming puck that connects to a TV and runs Sky’s internet-based platform.
Sky Stream bundles Sky TV with access to apps such as Netflix and Discovery+, depending on the selected package. Sky also highlights the simpler setup process, with next-day delivery available and no installation required beyond connecting the device to Wi-Fi.
What this means for Sky Q
Sky has been steadily expanding its broadband-based TV offerings in recent years, including Sky Glass, which builds the service directly into a television. Removing Sky Q from online sales suggests a continued move away from satellite TV for new customers, even if the platform itself has not been formally discontinued.
Sky has not confirmed whether Sky Q is still available to new customers through other channels, such as phone orders or in-store sign-ups, nor has it announced any plans to retire the service altogether. Support and updates for existing Sky Q users also appear unchanged.
For now, anyone looking to sign up for Sky TV online will be offered Sky Stream as the primary option, with availability, pricing and bundles varying by region and promotion.
