Tado X update brings easy hydronic balancing to your smart home

Tado is rolling out a new digital Hydronic Balancing feature across Europe, allowing smart homes to optimise heating systems through software rather than traditional plumbing work.

Hydronic balancing is widely recognised as a key method for improving heating efficiency in both boiler and heat pump systems. By ensuring hot water is distributed evenly, it helps prevent energy waste while delivering consistent temperatures across all rooms.

Until now, achieving proper hydronic balancing typically required a professional plumber. The process often involved draining the heating system and replacing physical radiator valves, making it expensive, time-consuming, and disruptive for homeowners.

Tado says its new approach removes these barriers by digitising hydronic balancing and making it accessible without invasive work. The company positions the update as a practical upgrade for existing heating systems rather than a full hardware overhaul.

The feature is designed to work automatically in the background once enabled, requiring minimal user input. Tado says this allows homeowners to improve efficiency without changing how they interact with their heating system day to day.

Software-based balancing and availability details

The digital Hydronic Balancing feature works using Tado X Smart Radiator Thermostats, which control water flow through software rather than mechanical valve adjustments. The system dynamically regulates each radiator to ensure even heat distribution.

Tado says no plumbing work is required, and existing radiator valves can remain in place. Users can install the smart thermostats themselves in minutes, avoiding professional installation costs or system downtime.

Tado is rolling out a digital Hydronic Balancing feature across Europe that uses software and smart radiator thermostats to optimise heating systems, replacing traditional manual balancing without requiring plumbing work.

Hydronic balancing using smart thermostats has become increasingly common in existing heating installations. Tado notes that the effectiveness of this approach has been validated by independent testing facilities.

The feature is available to all users with Tado X devices across Europe from today.
