TCL has taken the wraps off its latest display breakthrough at CES 2026, unveiling SQD Mini-LED, its most advanced Mini LED technology to date.
Built on more than a decade of research, the new system promises richer colours, tighter contrast control, and slimmer TV designs, all aimed at making premium picture quality more consistent in everyday living rooms.
SQD Mini-LED marks TCL’s eighth-generation leap in Mini LED development, refining how light and colour are controlled at the panel level.
The headline upgrade is TCL’s new Deep Colour System, which improves colour filtration to reduce crosstalk and keep colours stable even in bright, complex scenes. Working alongside the TCL Halo Control System, the technology is designed to minimise blooming around bright objects on dark backgrounds, a common weakness of Mini LED displays.
According to TCL, the new panel structure delivers up to a 33% boost in colour gamut performance and a 69% improvement in quantum dot accuracy compared with previous generations. The result is a picture that retains shadow detail, avoids colour washout at high brightness, and feels more lifelike across mixed-lighting scenes.
The technology will debut in TCL’s flagship X11L SQD Mini-LED TV Series, which is aimed squarely at high-end home cinema, sports, and fast-action viewing.
The X11L combines SQD Mini-LED with up to 20,000+ local dimming zones and peak brightness of 10,000 nits, allowing for intense highlights without sacrificing contrast or structure. Support for up to 100% of the BT.2020 colour gamut further pushes the set into cinema-grade territory.
TCL is also pairing the display with a 144Hz native refresh rate, an advanced TSR AI Processor for real-time scene optimisation, and a WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel to maintain brightness and colour accuracy from wider viewing angles. Audio is handled by Bang & Olufsen, hopefully removing the need for an immediate soundbar upgrade.
Design hasn’t been overlooked either. The X11L features a ZeroBorder look and an ultra-thin profile of less than 0.8 inches, helping it blend more naturally into modern interiors. Google Gemini-powered interactive AI is also built in, offering more personalised control over entertainment.
TCL will be showcasing SQD Mini-LED and its wider CES 2026 lineup at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall, Booth #18604, from January 6–9.
