GameSir has teamed up with retro accessory specialist Hyperkin to unveil what it’s calling the world’s first fully modular mobile gaming controller.
Revealed at CES 2026, the new GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron is designed to adapt to just about any style of mobile gaming, whether you’re streaming modern titles or diving deep into retro emulation.
At first glance, the X5 Alteron follows a familiar telescopic controller design, with an extending arm that can clamp onto a wide range of devices.
It supports Android phones, iPhones, iPads, and even the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, making it more versatile than most mobile controllers. Bluetooth connectivity also means it can double up as a PC controller when needed.
Where things get interesting is the modularity. The X5 Alteron uses interchangeable button and control modules, allowing players to reconfigure the layout to suit different genres.
You can switch between symmetrical and asymmetrical stick layouts, or slot in dedicated modules inspired by GameCube, Nintendo 64, or traditional fighting game controls. For retro fans and emulation enthusiasts, that flexibility could be a major draw.
One of the more eye-catching options is a dedicated trackpad module, similar to what you’ll find on the Steam Deck. If it works as well as promised, it could make first-person shooters and cursor-heavy games far more playable on mobile than they usually are.
GameSir is also leaning hard into build quality. The controller features drift-resistant capacitive thumbsticks, Hall effect triggers, and tactile, clicky buttons, all aimed at improving durability and long-term reliability. That puts it firmly in premium territory, at least on paper.
There’s no confirmed price or release date just yet, though given the hardware and modular ambitions, it wouldn’t be surprising if it lands north of the $100 mark. For now, the X5 Alteron is being shown publicly at CES 2026, with more details expected closer to launch.
If GameSir and Hyperkin can deliver on the promise of true modularity without compromising comfort or performance, the X5 Alteron could end up being one of the most flexible mobile controllers we’ve seen — and a compelling option for players who refuse to stick to just one way of gaming.
