Onkyo is marking its 80th anniversary with a fresh take on modern hi-fi.
Revealed at CES 2026, the new Muse Series introduces two compact, all-in-one network-integrated amplifiers — the Y-50 and Y-40 — that blend classic Japanese design with contemporary streaming features.
Both models are designed to be simple, powerful centrepieces for modern music setups. They combine full digital amplification with built-in streaming support, turning what would traditionally be a stack of separate boxes into a single, clean-looking unit that handles almost everything.
A big part of the Muse Series’ appeal is how it looks. Each amp features a 5.46-inch colour LCD display that shows album art, track info and even an analogue-style VU meter, which adds a touch of old-school charm.
The aluminium front panel is paired with a newly designed volume knob and heat vents patterned with the traditional Japanese San Kuzushi motif — a subtle nod to Onkyo’s heritage.
Under the hood, the Muse Y-50 is the more powerful of the two. It delivers 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms, driven by an Axign Class D amplifier with high-current MOSFETs. It also includes Onkyo Room EQ for basic room calibration, along with a generous selection of connections: analogue RCA inputs, coaxial input, a MM/MC phono stage, HDMI ARC, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, plus a subwoofer output.
Streaming support is equally broad, with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast and AirPlay 2 all built in, and full control handled through the Onkyo Controller app.
The Muse Y-40 trims things back slightly, offering 150 watts per channel but keeping the same display, streaming platforms and core design. It still includes HDMI ARC, phono input and both wired and wireless networking, making it a strong option for smaller rooms or more modest speaker setups.
Both models come in black or silver, measure just 3.9 inches tall, and are clearly designed to look as good on a shelf as they sound through speakers. Pricing is set at $1,499 for the Y-50 and $999 for the Y-40, with availability planned for May 2026.
For Onkyo, the Muse Series feels like a confident reset — compact, modern hi-fi that doesn’t forget where it came from, and proves that good audio gear can still be a pleasure to look at.
