Apple is sending new reminder emails to users who have not yet upgraded to the latest Apple Home architecture, warning that support for the older system is nearly ending and that access could be restricted if no action is taken.
The move follows Apple’s initial rollout of a redesigned Apple Home architecture in late 2022 and early 2023, which was intended to improve performance reliability and device compatibility across the smart home platform.
That rollout was briefly paused after early issues led Apple to pull the update, before reintroducing it with fixes and clearer guidance for users managing larger or more complex Home setups.
Nearly three years later, Apple is now preparing to fully retire the legacy Home architecture, marking the end of a transition period that has allowed users to delay upgrading.
Apple previously said support for the old system would end in autumn 2025, but the company later extended the deadline to February 10, 2026, citing the need for additional preparation time.
With that revised date approaching, the latest reminder emails suggest Apple intends to stick with the February cutoff and is encouraging remaining users to update soon.
Updating requirements could affect older devices
Users can upgrade to the new Apple Home architecture by opening the Home app, navigating to Home Settings, and checking the Software Update section for available changes.
If the Home app displays a message stating that the home and all accessories are up to date, Apple says the user is already running the current version, and no further action is required.
The updated Home architecture introduces stricter software requirements, including a minimum of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2.
Devices that cannot meet these requirements will lose access to Apple Home after the upgrade, raising concerns among users who rely on older hardware for dedicated home control.
Apple has not announced any further extensions beyond February 10, 2026, indicating that users who do not update by then may be locked out of the Home platform entirely.
With reminders now being sent directly to users, Apple appears to be entering the final phase of its transition away from the original Apple Home architecture.
