IKEA just launched a budget-friendly air fryer and microwave combo

IKEA has expanded its small kitchen appliance lineup with the global launch of the Gåtebo, a three-in-one microwave that also functions as an air fryer and grill at a notably low price.

Previously limited to select European markets, the Gåtebo is now available worldwide for around $199, £150 or AU$299, positioning it as one of the most affordable microwave and air fryer combo appliances currently on sale.

Despite its expanded feature set, the Gåtebo is no larger than a standard freestanding microwave, making it an appealing option for compact kitchens where counter space is at a premium.

A space-saving alternative to multiple appliances

The Gåtebo combines microwave, grill, and air-fryer functions in a single unit, alongside defrost and drink-warming modes, plus two combination settings that pair microwave cooking with either grill or convection heat.

IKEA says the appliance is designed to cover most everyday cooking needs for small households, potentially reducing the need for a traditional oven in studio apartments or shared living spaces.

Unlike standalone air fryers, which can take up significant counter space, the Gåtebo offers similar functionality without increasing the appliance footprint, a key factor for renters and city dwellers.

Microwave and air fryer combos are not new, but many competing models remain relatively expensive or bulky, which has limited their appeal outside larger kitchens.

While it cannot replace a stovetop for boiling pasta or rice, IKEA suggests pairing it with one of its low-cost induction hobs to create a flexible cooking setup that can be packed away when not in use.

Aggressive pricing undercuts rivals

At £150 in the UK, the Gåtebo undercuts many comparable appliances by a wide margin, with premium microwave and air fryer combos often costing more than double that price.

For comparison, higher-end models from established electronics brands regularly exceed £300, making IKEA’s option one of the most accessible entry points into multi-function cooking appliances.

IKEA has not positioned the Gåtebo as a performance-focused product, instead leaning into affordability, simplicity and space efficiency as its main selling points.

While hands-on testing will determine how well it performs compared to more expensive rivals, the pricing alone makes it an intriguing option for small kitchens, student flats and first-time buyers.
