The Samsung Galaxy S26+ is going to feel very familiar

If you were hoping for a big shake-up from Samsung’s next mid-tier flagship, the Galaxy S26+ might not be the phone to get excited about.

New reports suggest Samsung is fast-tracking the S26+ into its 2026 lineup — and in the process, keeping changes to a minimum.

As reported by The Elec, the Galaxy S26+ will return as the middle model between the base Galaxy S26 and the S26 Ultra, effectively undoing Samsung’s short-lived Edge experiment. The Galaxy S25 Edge, which launched as a slimmer alternative, reportedly underperformed, prompting Samsung to drop the Edge entirely and revert to the more familiar three-phone structure.

That change in direction appears to have left Samsung short on time. As a result, the Galaxy S26+ is said to feature a 6.66-inch display, mirroring the panel size of its predecessor with “effectively no change” to speak of.

While there were internal discussions about bringing a higher-end OLED panel — originally planned for the scrapped S26 Edge — to the Plus model, the report claims Samsung ultimately settled on a screen with specs similar to those used in 2025.

In other words, this looks like a stopgap phone. With development reportedly rushed and component production already underway, the S26+ seems positioned as a safe, familiar option rather than a meaningful upgrade.

That’s especially notable given that the base Galaxy S26 is expected to grow in size, potentially narrowing the gap between Samsung’s entry-level flagship and the Plus model.

Manufacturing timelines also hint at where Samsung’s priorities lie. The S26+ is said to enter mass production this month, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra began production earlier and is being made in far higher volumes. The numbers tell the story: Samsung reportedly plans to produce 3.6 million Ultra units, compared to just over half a million each for the S26 and S26+.

That imbalance suggests Samsung sees the Ultra as the real star of the lineup, with the Plus model largely there to maintain range consistency rather than push boundaries.

For fans of the Galaxy Plus line, the S26+ could still be appealing, especially if you value familiarity and size over experimentation. But based on what we’re hearing so far, it’s shaping up to be one of Samsung’s most conservative upgrades in years.
