Galaxy Z Fold 8 is set to feature a noticeably smaller display crease, thanks to changes in how the screen itself is built.
DealSite claims Samsung will introduce updated display technology when the Z Fold 8 launches later this summer.
The result, reportedly, is a 20% reduction in crease visibility compared to the current model. While crease visibility isn’t exactly something you can measure with a ruler, even a modest improvement would be welcome on a device that’s meant to feel premium when fully unfolded.
The key change is said to be how Samsung uses Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). Rather than limiting UTG to the top layer of the folding display, the Z Fold 8 could apply it to both the top and bottom layers. On top of that, Samsung is reportedly adding a laser-drilled metal support plate, reinforcing the folding area and reducing stress where the crease forms.
If true, this would mark a different approach to other upcoming foldables. The rumoured iPhone Fold, for example, is said to rely on a glass substrate instead, even though Samsung is expected to supply its foldable panel. That suggests Samsung is still experimenting with multiple solutions to the same problem — how to make a folding screen look and feel more like a normal slab display.
It’s also worth noting that Samsung has already shown off a near-crease-free foldable display at CES 2026, though there’s no confirmation that this exact panel is destined for the Z Fold 8. Demos and shipping hardware don’t always line up, especially when durability and mass production are involved.
Still, the timing makes sense. Chinese rivals have been steadily reducing crease visibility over the past couple of years, and Samsung’s foldables, while polished, have started to look conservative by comparison. A less obvious crease would go a long way toward making the Z Fold 8 feel like a meaningful refinement rather than another iterative update.
For now, this remains a report rather than an official confirmation. But if Samsung really is addressing the crease head-on, the Z Fold 8 could finally fix one of the foldable category’s most visible flaws.
