Smart kitchen gadgets are nothing new, but Cuisinart may have just crossed a line most of us didn’t see coming.
The company has unveiled the Cuisinart SimpliTouch XL Colour Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster, and yes, it really does have a full colour touchscreen on the front.
Before this sounds wildly over-engineered, the idea is actually pretty simple. Instead of fiddly dials and vague buttons, the SimpliTouch lets you tap your way to better toast. The touchscreen puts bread type and browning control front and centre, aiming to remove the guesswork that usually ends with burnt edges or underdone middles.
The display is split into two clear sections. On the left, you get six browning levels, while the right side lets you choose between five bread types, including standard bread, sourdough, bagels, English muffins and fruit loaf. Each option has its own smart preset, adjusting time and heat automatically depending on what you’re toasting.
Below that are a few practical extras: defrost, a +15-second boost, and a one-slice mode that heats just a single slot to save energy. Speaking of slots, they’re extra wide, designed to handle thicker slices without tearing or scorching — something anyone who loves sourdough will appreciate.
There’s also a High-Lift Quickview lever built into the centre of the toaster, letting you raise the bread mid-cycle to check progress without cancelling the toast or risking burnt fingers. It’s a small touch, but one that feels genuinely useful rather than gimmicky.
Cuisinart has played in this space before. Its recent Smart Elite 2-Slice Toaster already offered personalised presets and bread-specific controls, but the SimpliTouch takes things further with a much cleaner, more modern design. Where older smart toasters still relied on buttons, this one commits fully to the touchscreen idea.
The biggest surprise, though, is the price. The Cuisinart SimpliTouch XL Colour Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster is available now for £59.99 / $59.99.
Touchscreens on kitchen appliances might still feel excessive, but at this price, and with features that actually make sense, Cuisinart’s latest toaster feels less like a tech stunt and more like a genuinely smarter way to start the day.
