Insta360 has officially confirmed that it is working on a new handheld camera designed to compete directly with DJI’s Osmo Pocket line. The device, called Luna, was announced by CEO Liu Jingkang and is expected to launch in the first half of 2026.
The announcement comes only weeks after teasers hinted at a new product. Unlike Insta360’s usual global launch events, Luna was revealed in a more understated way, but the confirmation makes clear that the camera is real and on the way.
What sets Luna apart is its dual‑camera system. While DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 relies on a single 1‑inch sensor with a rotating touchscreen for front‑ and rear‑facing shooting, Luna is expected to integrate two lenses directly into the body.
This design could allow for more flexible shooting options, such as a dedicated front‑facing lens for vlogging and a rear lens for standard capture, or a wide and ultra‑wide combination.
Insta360 has emphasised that Luna is being developed independently and is not based on DJI technology. The company already dominates the 360‑degree camera market with its X series and has built a strong reputation in action cameras with the Ace and Ace Pro. Luna represents its first serious attempt to challenge DJI in the compact gimbal category.
DJI has effectively owned this space since the original Osmo Pocket launched in 2018. The current Pocket 3 remains one of the best compact vlogging cameras thanks to its mechanical gimbal, strong low‑light performance, and mature accessory ecosystem. For Luna to succeed, it will need to match or exceed these strengths, not just add a second lens.
Other companies, including vivo, are also exploring pocket‑sized gimbal cameras, but Insta360’s entry is the most credible sign yet that DJI may finally face direct competition. With its history of computational features like AI reframing, horizon levelling, and advanced stabilisation, Insta360 could lean heavily on software to complement Luna’s hardware.
No pricing or sensor details have been confirmed, but more information is expected in the coming months.
