Insomniac Games has indicated that Marvel’s Spider-Man titles are unlikely to launch on Xbox consoles, reinforcing Sony’s continued separation between its narrative-driven exclusives and broader multi-platform initiatives.
The developer responded to fan questions on X by stating that an Xbox port is “not likely,” tempering speculation that Sony’s evolving cross-platform strategy might extend to its flagship single-player franchises.
Marvel’s Spider-Man first launched on PlayStation 4 in 2018 before receiving a remastered version for PlayStation 5 in 2020, with the PC release arriving in 2022 as Sony gradually expanded select titles beyond its own hardware.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 followed a similar pattern, debuting on PlayStation 5 in 2023 before reaching Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2025, while Xbox Series X and Series S consoles remained excluded.
Insomniac previously stated in 2017 that Spider-Man would not appear on Xbox or PC, a position that later shifted for Windows releases but has not changed with regard to Microsoft’s console ecosystem.
Sony’s multi-platform strategy
Sony Interactive Entertainment has broadened distribution for some projects, particularly live-service multiplayer games such as Helldivers 2 and Bungie’s Marathon, which target wider audiences across competing platforms.
However, Sony executives have consistently distinguished those releases from tentpole single-player titles that showcase proprietary hardware capabilities and serve as incentives for console ownership.
SIE CEO Hermen Hulst previously explained that major narrative-driven projects highlight system performance and quality, signalling that first-party single-player franchises remain central to Sony’s hardware strategy.
That positioning aligns with Marvel’s Spider-Man, which continues to function as a platform-defining series closely associated with PlayStation branding rather than a cross-console release candidate.
While traditional console exclusivity remains intact, Microsoft’s rumoured next-generation hardware reportedly builds on a modified version of Windows, which could expand compatibility with third-party storefronts.
Devices such as the ROG Ally already support Spider-Man titles through PC marketplaces, suggesting that future Windows-based Xbox hardware might offer indirect access without a dedicated Xbox-native release.
Insomniac has not announced plans to bring Marvel’s Spider-Man to Xbox consoles, and the franchise currently remains available only on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.
