Apple is bringing AI-generated playlists to Apple Music, adding a new tool called Playlist Playground in the latest iOS 26.4 beta.
The feature lets users create custom playlists using text prompts. This is a move that closely mirrors Spotify’s AI Playlist and Prompted Playlist tools.
Playlist Playground works much like its name suggests. You can type in a description such as “morning coffee music” or ask for a genre, mood or era-specific mix. In response, Apple Music will generate a 25-track playlist complete with a custom title.
There are also preset ideas to get you started. Users can also tweak the prompt, rename the playlist, or manually add and remove songs before saving it.
It’s not the first time Apple has leaned into generative AI for media creation — the name echoes Image Playground, its AI photo tool. However, this is one of the most direct feature parallels with Spotify in recent memory.
Importantly, you won’t need an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone to use it. While the tool likely relies on Apple’s AI infrastructure behind the scenes, beta testers have confirmed that Playlist Playground works on older devices running iOS 26. That lowers the barrier considerably.
This is especially useful for users on devices like the iPhone 13 Pro that don’t support the full Apple Intelligence suite.
Apple Music is also preparing another Spotify-style addition: a Live Events hub that surfaces upcoming concerts in your area directly within the app. Details are still limited, but early reports suggest it could function similarly to Shazam’s concert discovery feature — another Apple-owned service.
Playlist Playground can be accessed in the beta by tapping the new “+” button in the Library tab. A full public rollout is expected this spring.
Between AI-powered playlist generation and live event discovery, Apple Music is steadily closing the feature gap with Spotify. This time, it’s doing so without locking the tools behind its newest hardware.
