Google Photos is broken for some users

A syncing issue with Google Photos appears to be preventing some users from seeing newly uploaded photos and videos. This occurs across all of their devices.

Over the past few days, multiple reports have surfaced on Reddit and Google’s support forums from users who say their latest photos aren’t appearing on secondary devices such as tablets or additional phones.

Some suggest the issue may affect only AI Premium subscribers, while others report syncing is working fine for them. The issue seems to affect both Android and iOS versions of the mobile app.

Importantly, this doesn’t appear to be a backup failure. New photos and videos are still uploading correctly from a user’s primary device. They are visible on the Google Photos website. The problem instead seems tied to cross-device syncing — specifically, other devices failing to pull in newly added content.

Reports began emerging around February 12–13, with affected users describing identical behaviour. Recent uploads show up as expected on one device but refuse to populate elsewhere in the app. While the issue has been widely discussed in community threads, it doesn’t appear to be universal. Some users haven’t been able to replicate the bug.

Google has not formally acknowledged the issue so far, aside from standard customer support responses on social media. That leaves it unclear whether this is a server-side problem, a recent app update bug, or something tied to account-specific settings.

For a service that’s largely built around seamless access to your entire photo library from anywhere, even a partial sync failure can be frustrating. Until Google provides clarity, users experiencing the issue may want to check for app updates. They may also sign out and back in, or temporarily rely on the web version to access their latest uploads.

If Google moves to address the problem publicly, we’ll update this story accordingly.
