Optoma’s new flagship projector is a home cinema powerhouse

Optoma has unveiled the UHZ78LV, a new 4K UHD RGB triple-laser projector that targets high-end home cinema setups with Dolby Vision support, IMAX Enhanced mode and 5,000 lumens of rated brightness.

The UHZ78LV enters a growing segment of premium laser projectors that aim to combine cinema-grade colour performance with enough brightness to function in living rooms that are not fully light-controlled.

Optoma equips the projector with RGB triple-laser technology, a configuration that separates red, green and blue light sources to improve colour purity and expand gamut coverage compared to single-laser or lamp-based designs.

The company lists 98% DCI-P3 colour coverage, placing the UHZ78LV within the performance range typically associated with dedicated home theatre projectors rather than mainstream living room models.

Support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ enables dynamic metadata processing on compatible content, allowing the projector to adjust brightness and tone mapping on a scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame basis.

Optoma integrates its PureEngine Ultra processing suite to manage motion handling, sharpness and colour calibration, aiming to deliver smoother transitions during fast-moving scenes and more consistent detail across varied source material.

Filmmaker Mode provides a preset designed to preserve original aspect ratios, frame rates and colour grading choices, while ISF picture modes allow calibration adjustments tailored to different lighting conditions.

An IMAX Enhanced mode is also included, enabling playback of specially mastered content formatted for expanded aspect ratios and higher brightness targets within supported ecosystems.

Installation flexibility and longevity

The projector delivers a rated brightness of 5,000 lumens, a specification that positions it for larger screens and rooms with ambient light where lower-output models can struggle.

Installation features include 1.6x optical zoom, vertical lens shift, keystone correction and four-corner adjustment, along with 360-degree projection capability for more flexible placement options.

Optoma rates the RGB laser light source for up to 30,000 hours of use, aligning with industry expectations for long-term reliability in laser-based home cinema systems.

Optoma has not yet confirmed full regional pricing or availability details for the UHZ78LV, though the projector is expected to reach major home cinema retailers following its official launch announcement.
