Meta has signed a multi-year agreement with AMD to supply Instinct GPUs for Meta’s AI infrastructure.
The deal extends an existing collaboration between the two companies and adds roadmap alignment across silicon, systems, and software, giving Meta deeper integration with AMD’s hardware development cycle than a standard procurement agreement would provide.
First deployments will run on the Helios rack-scale architecture, a rack system Meta and AMD co-developed and announced at last year’s Open Compute Project Global Summit, placing the new agreement on an infrastructure foundation already built around the partnership.
The 6GW commitment positions AMD as a significant alternative to Nvidia in large-scale AI infrastructure, a segment where Nvidia’s H100 and Blackwell GPUs have dominated enterprise and hyperscaler deployments over the past two years.
Meta frames the AMD deal as part of its broader Meta Compute initiative, an infrastructure diversification strategy that combines hardware from multiple external partners with its own Meta Training and Inference Accelerator silicon program to reduce dependency on any single supplier.
The portfolio approach reflects a pattern emerging across major AI operators, where companies including Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have moved toward custom silicon and multi-vendor GPU strategies rather than relying exclusively on third-party accelerators for expanding workloads.
Roadmap alignment between Meta and AMD covers AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems, a vertical integration arrangement that allows both companies to co-design hardware and software optimisations ahead of public product releases.
Meta describes the infrastructure expansion as necessary to support its personal superintelligence ambitions, a workload category that demands sustained compute scaling across inference and training operations running simultaneously at a global scale.
Shipment timing for the first Helios-based GPU deployments remains tied to the second half of 2026, with further deployment milestones and capacity figures expected to emerge as Meta’s infrastructure buildout progresses through the year.
