Sony’s new PS5 feature makes it easy to find the very best deals

Sony is adding another price transparency tool to the PlayStation Store, just as a fresh wave of PS5 discounts goes live.

The new feature introduces a “launch price” strip, showing how much a game originally cost at release, and for at least 30 days afterwards. This makes it easier to judge whether a current deal is genuinely good value.

It builds on changes Sony rolled out last year, when the store began displaying a game’s lowest price in the past 30 days. That update helped shoppers avoid impulse purchases during constant sales cycles. Now, by adding the original launch price into the mix, the store gives players a clearer picture. They can see how far a title has really fallen since day one.

It’s a small tweak, but a useful one. Price changes can happen quietly over time, and without context it’s hard to know if you’re saving £5 or £50 compared to launch. However, this new strip makes that comparison immediate — at least for users who can see it. Early reports suggest the feature is live for some UK accounts. Nevertheless, it hasn’t rolled out universally just yet.

The update arrives alongside Sony’s new Dealmania promotion, which includes some sizeable discounts.

While digital storefront transparency is improving, it’s still worth checking physical retailers such as Argos or Amazon. Sometimes, boxed copies can undercut PlayStation Store pricing.

Still, for PS5 owners navigating yet another sale, Sony’s latest tweak should make separating genuine bargains from average discounts a little easier.
