The Nothing Phone 4a looks great in pink

Nothing’s A-series has always been the more playful side of the brand. With the new Phone 4a, that experimentation is front and centre – especially in pink.

The company says the A-series gives its design team room to take more risks with colour and materials.

This year’s standout finish is easily the new pink variant. Rather than simply coating the back panel, Nothing applies tint beneath the transparent layer. The effect is subtle but deliberate. Light interacts with the resin underneath to create depth, shifting tones depending on angle and lighting. It’s not flat pink, it’s layered.

According to the design team, the shade is essentially a desaturated red, tying it back to Nothing’s established palette of white, black, grey and red. That connection makes it feel like a natural evolution rather than a sudden departure. The mid-frame carries a more saturated tone. Meanwhile, the internal components remain close to white, creating contrast and highlighting the intricate detailing beneath the translucent back.

That detailing is still very much part of Nothing’s identity. The exposed screws, coil shapes and PCB references aren’t purely decorative – they echo the real engineering inside the phone.

The rear layout of the Nothing Phone 4a also refines elements introduced in the Phone 2a and 3a, balancing softer curves with sharper lines. There’s a clearer alignment between the visible design divisions and where internal components actually sit. As a result, the back panel has a more intentional feel.

The Glyph Interface returns too, now expressed as a more linear arrangement of six white LEDs. For the first time on an A-series device, the red recording LED is also included. This is a small but symbolic addition that reinforces Nothing’s emphasis on transparency. The glyph animations have been redesigned specifically for this layout. For example, the timer’s single-column “falling sand” effect and progress indicators are powered by Android’s Live Updates.

Even the camera housing has been refined, with the periscope module now more compact. This allows for a smaller bump without losing visual symmetry, something the team was adamant about preserving.

Will the Phone 4a end up being one of the best mid-range phones around? It doesn’t look like we’ll have long to wait to find out, even if we do expect it to receive a price hike over the 3a.
