Xbox Cloud Gaming is getting sharper on console.
Microsoft has begun rolling out up to 1440p streaming for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. This brings higher-resolution, higher-bitrate streams to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X and Xbox One S.
Until now, console cloud streaming lagged behind other platforms in visual quality. With this update, supported games can stream at 1440p. As a result, users see noticeably crisper visuals and smoother overall performance. The upgrade aligns consoles with improvements already seen on the Xbox PC app, supported browsers, select Fire TV devices, and certain LG and Samsung TVs.
The move follows Xbox Cloud Gaming’s exit from beta, as Microsoft continues refining performance and expanding device support. While resolution isn’t everything, the bump to 1440p should make cloud-based play feel closer to native experiences. This is particularly true on larger displays where 1080p can start to look soft.
The February update isn’t just about resolution, though. On the Xbox PC app, Microsoft has added optional controller navigation sounds designed to make menu movement feel more responsive. The subtle audio cues can be toggled in settings for players who prefer a quieter interface.
Updates to the ROG Xbox Ally, too
There are also several updates for ROG Xbox Ally handheld users. These include easier formatting of removable storage directly within the Xbox app. Additionally, a new shader delivery indicator shows when graphics shaders have been preloaded to improve first-launch performance.
For Xbox Insiders on PC, a new Postgame Recap feature is rolling out. This summarises achievements unlocked, captures taken, and surfaces upcoming in-game events after a session ends. Meanwhile, a refreshed Xbox Cloud Gaming web experience has entered public preview, featuring updated navigation and a redesigned interface.
Microsoft is also continuing to expand its broader ecosystem. Over 1,000 titles now support Xbox Play Anywhere. Furthermore, the “Stream your own game” library for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers continues to grow.
The headline, however, is clear: Xbox wants cloud gaming on console to feel less like a compromise, and moving to 1440p is a meaningful step in that direction.
