Apple and Netflix are teaming up in a surprise partnership. This will see Formula 1: Drive to Survive stream directly inside the Apple TV app in the US.
The entire new season – season eight – will be available from midnight tonight. This comes just ahead of next week’s first F1 Grand Prix of the year.
The move marks an unusual crossover between two major streaming rivals. Produced by Netflix in collaboration with Formula One, Drive to Survive has become one of the platform’s biggest documentary hits.
It is widely credited with expanding F1’s audience in the US and beyond. Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue acknowledged that impact. He noted Netflix’s “pivotal role in growing F1” since the series debuted.
Season eight includes eight episodes covering the 2025 Formula One World Championship. It offers the usual mix of behind-the-scenes drama, team politics and race-day tension that has made the series so popular.
The deal goes beyond the show itself. Apple confirmed that the F1 Canadian Grand Prix, taking place on May 22, will stream on both Apple TV and Netflix in the US. This is part of the collaboration.
The timing is notable. The 2026 Formula 1 season kicks off with the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Australian Grand Prix on March 7. From this year Apple TV subscribers can stream all F1 races at no additional charge. Additionally, adding Drive to Survive into the mix strengthens Apple’s growing motorsport push. This also keeps fans engaged between race weekends.
For Netflix, it’s another way to widen the reach of one of its most successful unscripted series. For Apple, it’s a high-profile addition that blends premium streaming with live sports coverage. It is also a rare moment where competitors are willing to share the grid.
