There’s finally a foldable with an IP69 rating

Foldables have long trailed behind traditional smartphones when it comes to durability.

That changes with the launch of the Honor Magic V6, which becomes the first foldable to carry both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Announced at MWC 2026, the Magic V6 isn’t just tougher – it’s a full-blown flagship. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. As a result, it is firmly in top-tier territory.

Durability appears to be a key focus this year. Honor says the new Super Steel Hinge is built from the strongest commercially available steel. It has been tested for up to 500,000 folds. Despite that, the phone remains impressively slim. It measures 8.75mm when folded and just 4mm when open. Additionally, it weighs 219g in its lightest configuration.

The main display is a 7.95-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a resolution of 2,172 x 2,352. Honor claims a 44% reduction in crease depth, along with a reinforced ultra-thin glass layer and a new anti-reflective coating. Peak local brightness reaches 5,000 nits, while the 6.52-inch cover screen goes even further at 6,000 nits. Furthermore, both panels support stylus input and feature 20MP selfie cameras.

These are the best foldables around

Camera hardware is equally ambitious. Around the back, you’ll find a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide. This offers a more versatile setup than many foldable rivals.

Battery capacity has also grown. The Magic V6 packs a 6,660mAh silicon-carbon battery with 25% silicon content and 921Wh/L energy density. Charging is rated at 80W wired, 66W wireless, and it also supports reverse wireless charging.

On the software side, the device ships with MagicOS 10 based on Android 16, with Honor promising seven major Android updates. There’s also expanded cross-platform support for Apple devices, including two-way notification syncing with iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. In addition, there is file sharing and second-screen support for Macs.

Honor hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, but with IP69 protection, flagship silicon and one of the largest batteries in a foldable to date, the Magic V6 could mark a turning point for the category.
