Audible has launched a Standard membership plan at $8.99 per month in the United States, offering one audiobook credit per month and unlimited listening from a curated library that sits $6 below the existing Premium tier.
The audiobook format has grown fast over the past several years, and Audible‘s move to introduce a lower entry point reflects a broader industry pattern of tiered subscription structures that aim to convert casual listeners into paying members.
The Standard plan’s unlimited listening library includes a selection of Audible Originals alongside nearly 200 titles previously exclusive to Wondery+, which Audible has absorbed into its own catalogue, covering well-known series including Dr. Death, American Scandal, and Business Wars without requiring a separate subscription.
One audiobook credit per month carries over as the plan’s headline feature, with the selected title remaining in the listener’s library for as long as membership stays active. This matches the credit structure of the Premium plan but without the broader unlimited listening access that the higher tier provides.
Early rollout testing in the UK and Australia produced a strong double-digit percentage increase in new member sign-ups compared to previous offerings, a figure that informed the decision to expand the Standard plan simultaneously across the United States, Canada, Germany, and France at launch.
The Premium plan remains available at $14.95 per month in the US for listeners who want unrestricted access to Audible’s full unlimited listening catalogue alongside the monthly credit, with additional purchases continuing as a standalone option for non-subscribers or infrequent buyers.
The Standard plan is available now in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France, with testing underway in additional markets.
