Valve says its long-awaited Steam Machine is still on track for a 2026 launch. This is despite recent speculation that hardware supply issues could push the device further back.
The confusion started after a recent Valve Steam Machine blog post said the company “hopes to ship in 2026,” wording that raised concerns the console-style PC might slip beyond its previously expected launch window. Meanwhile, Valve has since clarified the situation. The company said the plan hasn’t changed.
“Nothing has actually changed on our end,” Valve PR representative Kaci Aitchison Boyle told The Verge. The blog post has now been updated to confirm that the Steam Machine remains scheduled to arrive sometime in 2026.
While the overall timeline stands, an early 2026 release now looks less certain. Valve had originally hinted that the device could reach users in the first quarter of the year. However, ongoing supply pressures, particularly around memory, may push the launch slightly later.
The wider tech industry is currently dealing with a global RAM shortage, driven in part by booming demand for AI data centres. Valve has already acknowledged that the situation is affecting the production of some of its hardware. This includes the availability of the Steam Deck OLED.
The Steam Machine itself is shaping up to be a compact gaming PC designed to bring the Steam platform more directly into the living room. Based on previously shared specifications, the system is expected to ship with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. However, Valve hasn’t confirmed final pricing yet.
Valve also reiterated that the Steam Machine won’t launch alone. The company is planning to introduce it alongside the Steam Frame wireless VR headset and a new Steam Controller, which will act as an accessory across the wider hardware lineup.
For now, the company says more details will follow once shipping schedules and pricing are finalised. In other words, the Steam Machine is still coming — just not quite as early in 2026 as some had hoped.
