We might’ve just seen how wide the Galaxy Z ‘Wide’ Fold could be — and it’s great news

Samsung’s rumoured wider Galaxy Z Fold is starting to take shape. A new leak offers a clearer look at what could be a noticeably different take on the company’s foldable design.

According to details shared by leaker Digital Chat Station, the upcoming “wide” Galaxy Z Fold could feature a 7.6-inch inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

This is a shift that would make it feel much closer to a small tablet than previous models. That’s a notable change from Samsung’s more square-like foldables in recent years. In turn, it could make the device better suited for video, reading, and multitasking.

The move also puts it closer in concept to the original Google Pixel Fold, which used a wider, landscape-oriented layout. However, this isn’t a simple copy. Earlier Samsung foldables leaned towards a 6:5 ratio. Meanwhile, more recent models have moved closer to a near 1:1 shape. Therefore, shifting to 16:10 would mark a more meaningful redesign than it might first appear.

That wider format could come with trade-offs, though. A broader inner display usually means a wider outer screen too. This can make one-handed use and typing less comfortable. It’s something Google’s first Pixel Fold struggled with at times. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung balances usability here.

Elsewhere, the leaked specs are more in line with expectations. The device is tipped to run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, alongside a 4,800mAh dual-cell battery. While that capacity sounds solid, it may not necessarily outpace Samsung’s more traditional Galaxy Z Fold models. Those are also expected to see battery gains this generation.

What stands out here isn’t raw power, but the shift in form factor. A wider, more media-friendly foldable could make the Galaxy Z series feel meaningfully different again. This is especially the case as competition in the foldables space continues to grow.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed the device yet, but with multiple leaks now pointing in the same direction, a broader take on the Galaxy Z Fold looks increasingly likely. It also looks potentially one of the more interesting updates in this year’s lineup.
