You can now use WhatsApp on your Garmin watch

Garmin has launched a new WhatsApp app for its smartwatches, letting users read and reply to messages straight from their wrist.

The app is available now as a free download through the Connect IQ Store. It works with select models across the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu and Vivoactive ranges.

Once installed, the app brings a fairly complete WhatsApp experience to Garmin devices. Users can view recent chats, read messages, and reply using an on-screen keyboard, as well as send quick emoji reactions.

The app also shows up to 10 messages per conversation, giving a bit more context than the usual notification previews. Incoming calls can be seen on the watch too, with the option to decline them without reaching for your phone.

As you’d expect, WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption still applies, meaning messages and calls remain private between sender and recipient.

This is the first third-party messaging app to land on Garmin smartwatches, a move that Garmin says highlights its push to expand what its wearables can do beyond fitness tracking. In particular, it targets users who want to stay connected while training or on the move.

There are some limitations. You’ll still need a paired Android or iPhone with WhatsApp installed, and compatibility is limited to certain Garmin models. But for those with supported devices, it’s a meaningful upgrade — particularly given how central WhatsApp is for everyday communication.

The addition also puts Garmin a step closer to rivals that already offer richer app ecosystems on their wearables. While this isn’t a full smartwatch-style messaging overhaul, it does make Garmin devices more practical for day-to-day use, not just useful for workouts.

For now, the WhatsApp app is available to download via the Connect IQ Store, with Garmin also hinting that more third-party integrations could follow.
