Samsung is expanding its Quick Share feature to support file transfers with Apple devices, marking a rare step toward cross-platform compatibility between Galaxy phones and iPhones for wireless sharing.
The update allows Samsung’s Quick Share system to connect with Apple’s AirDrop, enabling users to send files, photos, and videos directly between the two ecosystems without relying on third-party apps or cloud services.
This change addresses a long-standing limitation, as AirDrop and Quick Share have operated separately despite using similar technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to establish short-range connections.
Cross-platform sharing comes to Galaxy
The new functionality will roll out first to the Galaxy S26 series, where users can enable a setting that allows Quick Share to detect nearby Apple devices that have AirDrop enabled for sharing.
Once activated, Galaxy S26 devices can send files directly to iPhones, creating a more seamless transfer process that reduces friction between Android and iOS users who frequently exchange content.
This update reflects a broader trend toward interoperability, as manufacturers begin to loosen platform restrictions in response to user demand for easier communication between different operating systems.
Google introduced a similar capability on Pixel devices, which suggests that the underlying technology now supports cross-platform sharing at a system level rather than as a device-specific feature.
A step toward wider compatibility
The initial rollout remains limited, with support restricted to the Galaxy S26 lineup, which indicates that broader compatibility across older Galaxy devices may depend on future updates or hardware requirements.
It is also not yet clear whether file transfers will work in both directions, as some implementations allow iPhones to send files back to Android devices while others remain one-way.
Despite these limitations, the update signals a shift in how wireless sharing features evolve, moving away from isolated ecosystems toward more universal connectivity across competing platforms.
Samsung has started rolling out the update in South Korea, with expansion expected shortly after, while additional device support is planned for a later stage.
