Oppo looks set to finally take its top-tier “Ultra” phone beyond China.
The company has started teasing a global launch for the Find X9 Ultra, with an official reveal pencilled in for April. This could mark a big shift in its flagship strategy.
The tease came via Pete Lau, who confirmed the move in a post, saying the Find X9 Ultra is “going global” and promising “a new benchmark in mobile imaging.” If that holds true, it would be the first time Oppo’s Ultra-branded device is widely available in markets like Europe. Previous models have typically skipped a full release there.
That alone makes this launch notable. Oppo’s Ultra phones have historically been its most ambitious, usually focused on high-end camera systems and premium hardware. However, global buyers have largely been limited to the standard and Pro variants. A wider release could put Oppo in more direct competition with the likes of Samsung and Apple in the ultra-premium space.
There’s another layer to this story, though – and it’s a slightly messier one. Around the same time as Oppo’s teaser, rumours began circulating that OnePlus could be scaling back its global presence. Leaker Yogesh Brar claimed the brand might be pulling out of select regions including the US, UK and parts of Europe. However, the post was later deleted.
Nothing has been confirmed, and OnePlus previously denied similar claims earlier this year. Still, the timing is interesting. Oppo pushing a flagship Ultra device globally while OnePlus faces renewed uncertainty could point to a broader reshuffle. This could affect how the two brands approach international markets.
For now, the focus remains on the Find X9 Ultra. If Oppo follows through, April could mark the first real chance for global users to get their hands on its most ambitious phone yet.
