Ring is finally adding proper 4K video to its battery doorbells

Ring is bringing 4K video to battery-powered doorbells for the first time, removing one of the biggest compromises in its lineup.

Until now, higher-resolution video has largely been limited to wired models. However, that’s changing with the new Battery Video Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen).

The headline feature here is Retinal 4K video, paired with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom. This should make it easier to pick out faces, packages and other small details at your front door, even at night. In addition, Ring has reworked the internal design to support faster charging in a bid to balance higher resolution with practical battery life.

The shift matters because battery doorbells are typically the easier option to install. By bringing 4K into a wire-free setup, Ring is effectively closing the gap between convenience and top-end image quality.

Alongside the flagship model, Ring is also rolling out a broader refresh across its doorbell range. That includes three new 2K models at different price points, covering both battery and wired setups.

The Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) adds a quick-release battery pack for easier charging. Meanwhile, the standard Battery Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) offers a more stripped-back option with up to 6x zoom. There’s also a wired 2K version for homes with existing doorbell connections.

Ring isn’t stopping at video quality either. A new solar charger accessory is launching alongside the battery models, designed to keep them topped up without needing to remove the unit as often. This is something that could make a noticeable difference for high-traffic households.

Like previous devices, many of the smarter features sit behind the Ring AI Pro subscription. This adds tools such as motion summaries, keyword-based video search, and up to 180 days of video history.

Pricing starts at £59.99 for the entry-level wired model, rising to £219.99 for the 4K battery version, with pre-orders open now.
