As shared by 9to5Google, the company may pull out of key international markets as early as April 2026. Europe is among the regions potentially affected.
This isn’t just another vague leak, either. While the chatter first surfaced in a now deleted post on X via tipster Yogesh Brar, a separate source familiar with internal discussions has reportedly corroborated the claims. This points to a broader shift in strategy. The suggestion is that OnePlus could refocus on China and more affordable segments in India, rather than continuing to compete globally.
There are already signs that something’s changing. Reports indicate some staff have been informed ahead of time. Severance packages have been issued in certain cases. At the same time, Robin Liu has exited the company and returned to China, a move that’s only added fuel to the speculation.
If it all sounds a bit familiar, that’s because OnePlus has been here before. Back in 2020, the company quietly scaled back its European presence. This was following the launch of Nord series and the departure of co-founder Carl Pei. Since then, it’s become increasingly intertwined with parent company Oppo. Pete Lau has stepped into a broader leadership role across both brands.
The reasoning behind this latest shift isn’t confirmed, but it likely comes down to a mix of internal priorities and external pressure. Rising component costs and ongoing supply chain issues have hit the wider smartphone market hard. Meanwhile, Oppo appears to be tightening its focus, potentially at the expense of OnePlus’ global ambitions. Even partnerships have shifted, with the long-running Hasselblad camera tie-up no longer appearing on recent OnePlus flagships.
For now, nothing is official. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed any shutdown plans and maintains that operations in India will continue as normal, with support and software updates still guaranteed. But multiple sources are pointing in the same direction. Visible changes are already happening behind the scenes, so this is one rumour that’s getting harder to dismiss.
