Move over Suno, Gemini is expanding its AI music generation abilities and allowing users to create longer songs than before.
Google is now allowing users to generate full-length songs that are up to three minutes long, which is a huge upgrade over the shorter, 30 second clips that were previously available.
Lyria 3 Pro brings longer, more structured music creation
The update comes with the introduction of Lyria 3 Pro, a more advanced version of Google’s music generation model that now offers longer compositions and more structured control over how songs are created.
Previously, users were limited to generating tracks of around 30 seconds, but this new update dramatically extends that limit, making it possible to produce more complete pieces that resemble full songs rather than short audio snippets.
Lyria 3 Pro also improves how the system understands musical composition, so users can provide more specific prompts to alter elements such as intros, verses, choruses, and bridges, and have more overall control on how a generated track is structured from start to finish.
The feature is rolling out within the Gemini app to paid subscribers, with different usage limits depending on the plan, ranging from a set number of generated tracks per day across Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra tiers.
Beyond the Gemini app itself, Google is also bringing Lyria 3 Pro to other platforms such as Google Vids, where users will be able to generate custom music for creative and professional projects such as videos, tutorials, and marketing content.
Google is also making the model available to developers and businesses through tools such as Vertex AI, Google AI Studio and the Gemini API.
On the safety side, Google has also said that the model has been trained on content it has rights to use and includes safeguards such as output filtering and SynthID watermarking, while also preventing direct imitation of specific artists. Of course, it wouldn’t be surprising to see musicians, artists and producers speak out against Lyria 3 Pro much like they did with Suno and Udio.
