Nvidia’s DLSS 4.5 update brings 6x frame generation to RTX graphics

Nvidia has rolled out DLSS 4.5 through a new app beta release, bringing a 6x Multi Frame Generation mode and a dynamic frame generation system to RTX 50 series graphics cards.

The update requires GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL or newer to access the full feature set, and arrives shortly after the controversial reveal of DLSS 5, positioning 4.5 as a substantial mid-cycle upgrade rather than a minor iterative patch.

The headline addition is 6x Multi Frame Generation, which generates five additional frames for every natively rendered frame on RTX 50 series hardware, continuing a progression that began at 2x with the original Frame Generation technology before reaching 4x with DLSS 4.

Rather than simply pushing frame counts higher, Nvidia has introduced Dynamic Multi Frame Generation alongside the new multiplier, a system that automatically shifts between frame generation modes to balance frame rate, image quality, and responsiveness depending on what the game and display demand at any given moment.

Nvidia describes the dynamic system as functioning like an automatic transmission for a GPU, relieving players of the need to manually tune multiplier settings while still offering a manual mode through the Nvidia app for those who prefer direct control over their output configuration.

Image quality and hardware compatibility

DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution receives an upgrade through Nvidia’s second-generation transformer AI model, targeting the ghosting and temporal instability that can undermine perceived image quality when frame generation is pushed aggressively, ensuring that the additional frames hold up visually rather than introducing blur or artifacting during fast motion.

RTX 40 series owners gain access to the standard Frame Generation technology with this update but miss out on Multi Frame Generation entirely, while users on older GPU generations receive no support for any of the new features, drawing a clear hardware line around the RTX 50 series as Nvidia’s primary beneficiary of DLSS 4.5.

The update is available now through the Nvidia app beta, with the required driver available to download from Nvidia’s official support page.
