Samsung might be rethinking its flagship formula for 2027. Early leaks suggest a new Galaxy S27 Pro model could sit just below the Ultra, and may borrow a lot of what makes that top-tier phone stand out.
According to a report from ET News, Samsung is planning a four-model Galaxy S27 lineup, including the standard S27, S27 Plus and S27 Ultra alongside the new S27 Pro.
Rather than replacing the Plus, it’s expected to sit alongside it. However, it could offer something closer to an Ultra experience in a slightly toned-down package.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is tipped to share many of the Ultra’s core specs. This could potentially include features that usually don’t trickle down, such as a 200MP main camera, a 5x telephoto lens, and Samsung’s newer Privacy display technology – all of which have typically been reserved for the Ultra models in recent years.
The trade-offs? Leaks suggest the Pro could ditch the S Pen and possibly come with a smaller display. This would make it a more compact alternative for users who want flagship performance without the full Ultra footprint.
That shift would address a long-standing gap in Samsung’s lineup. While the Plus models have historically shared branding with the Ultra, they’ve often missed out on meaningful hardware upgrades. These include things like advanced cameras and anti-reflective display tech that actually impact day-to-day use.
There’s also a clear business angle here. Introducing a Pro model gives Samsung more room to tier its pricing. The Ultra could stay at the very top, while the Pro offers a slightly more accessible entry point into premium features.
It’s still early days, the Galaxy S27 series isn’t expected for at least another year, so plans could change. However, if this leak holds, Samsung may finally be building a middle ground that feels less like a compromise and more like a deliberate choice.
