That’s a notable shift from the recent wave of speculation, which hinted at delays stretching as far as 2027. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, however, development is progressing without any major roadblocks. This suggests Apple isn’t scrambling to course-correct behind the scenes.
In other words, this may not be the crisis it briefly looked like.
That said, this isn’t just another iPhone refresh. A foldable model would mark one of Apple’s biggest design changes in years. Expectations are predictably high. Early indications point to a premium-first approach, with pricing potentially exceeding $2000. That would put it firmly in flagship territory rather than mass-market appeal.
Even if Apple hits its expected launch timing, availability could be more complicated. Foldable devices are notoriously difficult to manufacture at scale, and first-generation hardware often ships in limited quantities. Apple is expected to follow a similar playbook here, prioritising a controlled rollout over wide availability at launch.
The foldable iPhone is also likely to arrive alongside or shortly after the next wave of Pro iPhones. Therefore, it becomes part of a broader upgrade cycle rather than a standalone experiment.
All of this makes the stakes unusually high. A successful foldable could reshape Apple’s lineup and push its average selling price even higher. Meanwhile, a delay would risk losing momentum in a category competitors have been building for years.
