Marking nearly three decades of support for the autism community, Grado Labs has created a one-of-a-kind headphone to benefit Eden II Programs, a New York-based organisation that has provided education, residential services, and community support for individuals with autism since 1976.
The headphone is built on the Grado Signature S550 and features a housing decorated with hand-painted artwork created by Juliana, an Eden II participant who has been part of the organisation’s community for more than 20 years, having moved through its preschool and school programmes into its current adult day programme.
Her artwork, which depicts puzzle pieces painted alongside her support staff, transforms a high-end open-back headphone into a personal artefact. Only a single unit has been produced for the project, making it genuinely “one-of-a-kind”.
The connection between Grado Labs and Eden II runs deeper than a one-off collaboration. Richard Grado has spent 14 years on the organisation’s Board of Directors and four years as its Board Chair, a level of personal involvement that gives this project more weight than a typical charity tie-in.
Eden II is celebrating its 50th anniversary, serving children and adults across New York City and Long Island, and all proceeds from the auction go directly to the organisation to fund its ongoing programmes and services.
The auction runs until 5pm, 30th April and is hosted on the Eden II website. Prospective bidders also able to find further details at Grado Labs, where the full story of the project and Juliana’s involvement is documented alongside the listing.
For anyone already familiar with Grado’s collector releases, this model combines the brand’s craftsmanship with a cause that its founding family has supported for the better part of three decades.
