Spotify has rolled out a redesigned app experience for iPad and Android tablets. It focuses on making better use of larger screens rather than simply scaling up its mobile interface.
At a glance, this isn’t a radical overhaul, but the changes will be meaningful to those who spend a lot of time in the app..
The new layout introduces parallel browsing. This lets you keep music or video playing on one side of the screen. Meanwhile, you can explore playlists, albums or podcasts on the other side. It’s a small shift that makes the app feel far more natural on bigger displays.
There’s also a collapsible sidebar that adapts depending on how you’re using the app. It can stay docked for quick navigation, or it can expand when you want to dive deeper into your library or recommendations. This adds a layer of flexibility that was missing before.
Spotify has also reworked how the interface behaves when you rotate your device. Instead of simply resizing elements, the app now uses adaptive orientation. This means the layout properly reconfigures between portrait and landscape for a more balanced feel.
Importantly, Spotify hasn’t tried to reinvent everything. The bottom navigation bar remains unchanged, so it still feels familiar to anyone used to the mobile app. That consistency seems intentional, this is more of a refinement than a redesign.
The update also improves video playback, with a more prominent “Switch to Video” toggle for podcasts and other supported content. This makes it easier to jump between listening and watching.
According to Spotify, the goal is to make its experience feel consistent across its growing ecosystem of over 2,000 devices. These devices span TVs, cars and wearables. The company is still tailoring the interface to each screen.
ablets have long felt like an afterthought for Spotify, stuck somewhere between phone and desktop. This update doesn’t completely reinvent the app. However, it does finally make it feel like it belongs on a bigger screen.
