The OnePlus 16 has surfaced in a fresh leak, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most over-the-top Android flagships yet.
The catch? If recent rumours about OnePlus scaling back in parts of Europe are anything to go by, there’s a decent chance this one won’t land widely in markets like the UK.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the headline upgrade is the display. The OnePlus 16 is tipped to feature a 6.78-inch LTPO panel with a 1.5K resolution, supplied by BOE. It will also feature ultra-slim bezels that could measure as little as 1mm thanks to new manufacturing tech.
More notably, the screen could push refresh rates far beyond the current norm. It may have a minimum of 185Hz and a peak of 240Hz, putting it ahead of most flagship rivals.
That’s a sizeable jump from the OnePlus 15, which already stretches to 165Hz. If accurate, it suggests OnePlus is doubling down on high-refresh displays as a key selling point. Rather than chasing resolution alone, this could define the new model. The panel is also said to support the BT.2020 colour gamut, hinting at improved colour accuracy and vibrancy.
Elsewhere, the upgrades sound just as ambitious. The phone is expected to run on Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, reportedly built on a 2nm process. It will come with a significantly larger 9,000mAh battery, a big leap from the previous model. Camera-wise, leaks point to a revamped primary sensor. There could also be a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, which would mark a serious push into zoom photography.
Of course, it’s still early days, and none of this is confirmed. But even if the specs hold up, availability could be the bigger question. Ongoing rumours suggest OnePlus has been reassessing its presence in parts of Europe, and this could see future flagships focus more heavily on markets like India and China instead.
If that turns out to be the case, the OnePlus 16 might end up being one of those phones you read about more than you actually see. Even if it does push the hardware envelope further than most, the device could remain elusive.
