Firefly AI Assistant now available in public beta

Adobe is taking its next big step into AI-powered creativity with the public beta of Firefly AI Assistant.

It is now rolling out globally inside its Firefly app. The new tool is designed to handle complex creative tasks through simple prompts, effectively acting as a behind-the-scenes operator across Adobe’s entire Creative Cloud suite.

At its core, Firefly AI Assistant lets users describe what they want in plain language. It then executes the workflow for them.

That could mean turning a single product image into a full set of social media assets. It might also involve building a mood board from a brief, or editing a batch of photos — all without jumping between apps. Instead, the assistant taps into tools across Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere and more, and stitches everything together automatically.

Adobe says the assistant can already pull from over 60 pro-grade tools, including features like Generative Fill, Remove Background and Auto Tone, with more capabilities expected to roll out during the beta.

There are also pre-built “Creative Skills”. These are essentially shortcuts for common workflows like retouching portraits, creating mockups or generating social-ready variations. They are aimed at speeding things up even further.

Despite the automation, Adobe is keen to stress that users stay in control. The assistant shows its working, asks for input along the way and lets you step in, tweak or take over at any point. Finished assets are saved directly to Creative Cloud, ready to be picked up in other apps.

The beta is available starting today for users on Creative Cloud Pro or paid Firefly plans, with Adobe offering daily generative credits to test the feature.

Alongside the assistant, Adobe is continuing to expand Firefly itself. Recent updates include support for third-party AI models like OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 and Runway Gen-4.5. There are also new editing tools such as Precision Flow and AI Markup, all part of a broader push towards what Adobe calls “agentic creativity.”

It’s early days, but Firefly AI Assistant gives a clear idea of where Adobe is heading: fewer menus, fewer manual steps, and a lot more done from a single prompt.
