Lego’s latest Lord of the Rings set is absolutely massive

Lego has announced its largest Lord of the Rings set to date, with the 8,278-piece Minas Tirith arriving as the fourth biggest set the company has ever produced, sitting behind only the Eiffel Tower, Titanic, and Death Star in total piece count.

The White City of Gondor measures over 59cm tall, 62cm wide, and 37cm deep, a footprint that reflects the scale of the source material and places Minas Tirith among the most substantial display builds Lego has released across any of its licensed lines.

To balance that ambition against the practical limits of minifigure-scale construction, the set combines two approaches within a single build, with the sprawling outer walls and cityscape rendered in microscale while key interior spaces such as the Citadel’s throne room are sized to accommodate standard minifigures directly.

Ten minifigures ship with the set, covering Aragorn as King Elessar, Arwen, Denethor, Faramir, Gandalf the White, Peregrin Took, and four Soldiers of Gondor, each accompanied by accessories including Gondor helmets, shields, and a crown for the newly-crowned king of the realm.

The release marks the 25th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring’s cinema debut, and extends a run of major Lord of the Rings builds that has included Rivendell, Barad-dûr, and The Shire in recent years, with Lego having steadily expanded its Middle-earth range into some of its most collector-focused territory.

Buyers who purchase through the LEGO Insiders programme will also receive a free Gift with Purchase in the form of the Lego Icons Grond set (40893), a separately numbered build of the wolf-head battering ram Sauron’s forces use during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, though the gift is available only while stocks last.

The Minas Tirith set carries a price of $649.99 / £579.99, with Lego Insiders able to purchase from 1 June ahead of a wider general release on 4 June, making it one of the more significant collector launches the company has scheduled for the first half of the year.
