Denon has expanded its X Series AV receiver lineup with the AVR-X2900H and AVC-X3900H, two models developed at the brand’s Shirakawa Audio Works facility in Japan and aimed at enthusiasts and custom home theatre installers who want more headroom than mid-range receivers typically offer.
Both new models feature updated internal components compared to older models, and at the heart is a “high-performance” 32-bit multi-channel DAC architecture that’s claimed to deliver “imprived imaging, clearer high-frequency detail and more confident low-frequency energy” across every channel.

Focusing more on the AVR-X2900H, it delivers 95 watts per channel across seven channels, targeting listeners looking to move beyond entry-level separates without committing to the more complex set-ups. It has support for immersive surround formats and AMD FreeSync compatibility for gaming setups.
The AVC-X3900H sits above the X2900H with 9.4 channels of amplification, 11.4 channels of processing, and 105 watts per channel, alongside four independent subwoofer outputs that give installers more control over bass distribution in larger, acoustically complex listening rooms.
Both models support Audyssey room correction out of the box, with optional Dirac Live Room Correction available as a separate licensed upgrade for users who want more control over frequency response and timing across their speaker layouts.

The AVC-X3900H extends that Dirac compatibility further with optional Bass Control and Active Room Treatment upgrades, which hints at the model’s positioning for professionally integrated installations rather than straightforward home cinema setups.
Multiroom audio runs through the HEOS platform on both models, with Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and streaming service access covering Qobuz, Spotify, and TuneIn and others. A future firmware update will add wireless rear surround support using Denon’s Home 200, 400, and 600 speakers.
The AVR-X2900H carries a UK price of £899 / $1349, with the AVC-X3900H priced at £1299 / $1849. Both receivers are available now through Denon’s official website and authorised retailers worldwide.
