Xbox is losing these Game Pass games this month

Five titles are preparing to exit Xbox Game Pass on 31 May as part of the service’s standard monthly rotation of content across cloud, console, and PC.

The outgoing titles span a range of genres that have drawn considerable subscriber attention during their time on the platform, with Against the Storm, Crypt Custodian, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona 4 Golden, and Spray Paint Simulator all confirmed for removal before the month closes.

Of those departures, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 4 Golden carry particular weight for the service, as both titles represent the kind of deep, hours-long role-playing game that subscribers have historically used to justify the cost of a Game Pass membership against the price of an outright purchase.

That dynamic sits at the heart of how Microsoft has structured Game Pass since its expansion into day-one releases, with the service built around the understanding that a proportion of subscribers will purchase titles they want to keep after the removal window is announced, which is the pattern Microsoft is again encouraging ahead of the 31 May deadline.

Licensing agreements and publisher deals govern how long individual titles remain available, with the typical window sitting anywhere between six and 18 months from the point a game joins the catalogue, though some titles depart considerably earlier depending on the terms negotiated at the time of their addition.

Microsoft has continued to expand the Game Pass library throughout May, with a second wave of additions confirmed this month, including Forza Horizon 6, Escape Simulator, Jurassic World Evolution 3, and several day-one releases landing across cloud, console, and PC in the final weeks of the month.

Subscribers wishing to retain access to any of the five departing games beyond 31 May can purchase them at a discounted rate before they are removed, a standing benefit Microsoft offers Game Pass members when titles are confirmed for exit from the library.
